Custom Silk Wedding Dresses

Custom silk wedding dresses are the standard at Wilden London. Unless specifically required, every bespoke wedding dress is hand made in silk.

My love of silk

I love working with silk because it truly gives the best results for the ultimate luxury wedding dress. From an artisans point of view, I know how to handle silk fabrics with perfection unlike synthetic fabrics which can be unpredictable under the machine or under a hot iron. Silk is a natural fibre that can be spun in different ways to create different fabrics that may be sheer or dense, stiff or soft and anything in between.

Whether matt silk crepe wedding dress or the sheen of silk satin, silk reflects the light beautifully on the body in a way like no other fabric, even under the shade of embroidery or lace. All Wilden London, bespoke wedding dresses are lined in silk crepe satin which feels beautiful and luxurious against the skin.

Silk for a wedding dress is breathable, and both warming and cooling as the body requires and so is the ideal fabric no matter the weather on your wedding day.

All silks can be dyed to specification to create a custom coloured wedding dress.

The different silk options for your custom dress

Depending on the design and style of your dress, there is a different fabric to make your silk wedding dress come to life. Sometimes the qualities of a silk can be changed by stiffening with interlinings so the following information is a guide and not a strict rule.
If you’ve seen a fabric you dream of using for your bespoke wedding dress, get in touch to talk about the possibilities.

Silk Crepe

Sometimes called Silk Morrocain, and Silk Crepe Satin are most often for close fitting and skimming styles, bias cuts and drapes. They are substantially weighted fabrics, but very calm and flowing. These are most likely seen on vintage style, 1930s wedding dresses, or sleek modern wedding dresses. I often find brides are wary of satin, but they needn’t be. Unlike synthetic alternatives, silk satin catches the light in a really beautiful and soft way.

Silk Chiffon

Silk Chiffons are fine and sheer fabrics, used for billowing sleeves, sheer over bodices and flowing wedding skirts. A French chiffon tones down the satin sheen of silk crepe Satin under layers, while keeping all of the beautiful light reflecting qualities. Silk Chiffon would always require a lining, unless you want a sheer look. Silk Satin chiffon is slightly less sheer with a very soft sheen on one side.

Silk chiffon wedding dresses are often ethereal styles, light, soft, beautiful and iridescent.

Silk Organza

Silk Organza is sheer, but strong and stiff, yet also versatile in wedding dress design. It can be used to create stiff shapes for which other fabrics will drape on top of, to create petticoats and to give a strong structure. But it is also soft and lightweight and can create layers and texture.

Silk organza wedding dresses might be ballgown like in size and shape, but very easy to wear.

Silk Ziberline

Silk Ziberline and Silk Mikado are very similar fabrics. They are stiff, with a subtle texture that reflects light and photographs in a very magical way. Magnificent structural shapes can be created, like giant bows and pleated and gathered trains. This stiff fabric has some give to create a

comfortable and fitted shape on the body, but is perhaps best suited to trapeze shapes and ballgown wedding dresses.
