Yellow Embroidered Fifities Wedding Dress

I hesitate to mention the lockdowns, but it must be acknowledged (there might be a lot of reluctant talk of lockdowns this year), despite the Bride, Melangellโ€™s calm nature, weeks away from collecting her dress, lockdowns were announced! A quick thinking, meant that Melangell and her beau postponed by whole year.

We stayed calm, what else could we do?

Melangell, wanted a bright and fun, yet perfectly formed fifties style swing dress for her wedding. When I say perfectly formed, I mean, just the right length to be demure, and just the right amount of fabric in the skirt to give movement yet give a refined silhouette. (Some fifties style dresses can be a bit too full of fabric, and not drape over petticoats and such a nice way).
A removable collar which crossed at the front gave a chic off-shoulder style, and then removed for a strapless transformation.
A tulle petticoat was dyed to match the yellow mikado fabric, and the dress embroidered with brightly coloured flowers in multi-colour jewel tones. A narrow buckled belt was made to match in the same fabric as the dress.

This is where the lockdown gave us some precious time to reflect. The direction we had taken with the embroidery was a little naturalistic, and instead we re-worked the entire design and pulled out all the stops to create a vibrant and folksy floral design, just in time for the world of weddings to open again - partially at least! Further celebrations to come!
