Embroidered floral dress for a Landscape architect

It truly is such an honour and a compliment to be asked to design and make a wedding dress design for a fellow creative. To create for those whose create vision is already so strong is no small feat.

Amy is a landscape architect with a love of florals, and so naturally she was drawn to these motifs for her embroidered vision, asking for ferns, leaves and cosmos embroidered to the chiffon layers of the dress. Depth was added by creating a kind a of barely-there shadow of chiffon leaves, growing from the hem, and layers of palest pink lace flowers, with touches of gold and pale sage beads scattered throughout.

Amy had in mind some kind of beaded and woven waist belt. For this I learned to make beaded peyote rope which I was able to add a knotted detail to the front.

Because there was a lot of detail on the fabric of the dress, Amy wanted to keep the silhouette details very understated, with slim fitted sleeves, a modest v-neck with silk camisole, and slim skirt with movement but not excess, and no train. The back however, was completely open to the waist, with only a beaded strap which kept the sleeves on the shoulders (Which is often a necessity with a backless design) and two
bead-embroidered lace leaves falling from a chain.

I think Amy’s vision came together perfectly for a pretty and highly detailed dress, yet which was relaxed and and under-stated.
